How long do sessions last?

Each session is 50 minutes long, with the exception of the initial telephone conversation which will last approximately 20 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

Its difficult to say. Each individual is unique. I will structure regular reviews into our sessions to discuss if counselling is working for you, giving you the opportunity to talk about anything that is working, or not, for you in your sessions.

Can I book a short notice session during a crisis?

I do not offer emergency appointments. Please contact another organisation who may be able to offer you Urgent support

I'm nervous. Is this normal?

Yes! Even if you've exeprienced therapy/ counselling before, it is not unusual to feel a degree of nervousness. I will do all I can to put you at ease and relax you into your first session. In my exerience, clients usually leave feeling much more relaxed and are less nervous, if at all, when returning.

Is what we discuss in sessions confidential?

Every session we have together, and everything we discuss in those sessions is completely confidential. This is important to help you to feel safe and build trust between us so that you can speak openly about how you are feeling.

The only exceptions to this is if I am legally obligated to provide information by law, or if there are safeguarding concerns (a concern for the immediate safety of you or someone else, for example).

Will you try to 'diagnose' me?

Counsellors do not diagnose or label their clients. I am here to provide you with a non-judgmental and confidential space to explore your issues and support you in making your own changes/ decisions.

How much will it cost and how can I pay?

Initial, confidential, no obligation, 20 minute telephone calls are free of charge, to give you the oportunity to decide if I am the right fit for you.

Online and telephone sessions are charged at £25 per 50 minute session.

Face to face sessions are charged at £30 per 50 minute session.

Payment is via Bank transfer and is due at the time of booking.

Can I change or cancel my appointment date/ time?

Of course! Life happens. Sometimes things need to be re-arranged or cancelled. This can be done by contacting me by phone or text. (Emails may not be read immediately). All I ask is that you give as much notice as possible. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will still be chargeable, unless exceptional circumstances apply. Details will be provided before the first session and can be discussed at any time.

Can I have my phone with me?

Sessions are much more productive if they are uninterupted and there are no distractions, so I ask that mobile phones / other communication devices are turned off or switch to silent mode during each session. Of course, there may be times when you need to be available to others and need to have your phone's volume on. This is fine as long as it is discussed at the start of the session.

What happens during my first session?

Initially I will discuss the client/ counsellor agreement with you to make sure you understand everything. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and then you can begin to tell me what is troubling you. It can feel like you are giving me a lot of information in one go. You need not make any apologies for this. I often see this with clients and I am experienced in listening, and making sense of what you share with me.
